Guinness, the Cat of the Day
Name: Guinness
Age: Two years old
Gender: Male
Kind: Domestic Medium-Hair
Home: Penticton, British Columbia, Canada

My name is Guinness. I am named after the famous brand of beer because my mom had to beg and plead and cajole my dad to keep me since I was about to gain two brothers. Since Guinness is my dad's favorite beer, my mom was smart enough to name me something he already loved.

I have the best life but it didn't start out so great. My cat mom was left on someone's doorstep with all of us kittens just after we were born. We stayed outside in a basket all night long with lots of scary noises. Thankfully the woman whose house we were left at knew about Critteraid so we ended up there. We were sick, hungry and scared but everyone at Critteraid took very good care of us. My mom is a volunteer and everyone was asked to visit us in our quarantined room to help socialize us. I charmed her right away and when I was ready she took me home. However, I was still sick and it was impossible to keep me from away from my new brothers and Denali got very ill as well. No one was happy for awhile as I needed special medicine and my oldest brother Denali had to stay at the vet's office overnight because he had stopped eating. I'm a big boy now and though noises still scare me (especially the evil snake-like thing that sucks stuff up) I have a special safe place under the big bed. My oldest brother Denali eventually got better and we enjoy grooming one another. However, Crouton and I have never quite clicked but that's ok because we have the best tussles! I am very smart, not to mention beautiful, but I am not a lap cat. I love being petted, scratched and brushed and I will curl up next to you but let's face it -- not everyone is a cuddle-monster.

I am a master at opening cupboard doors and taking all the plastic recycling out of the bin and scattering it around the house. Did I mention the fish tank? It's the coolest thing in the house - especially the plecostomus! When he comes out from hiding I chase him around the tank. My other favorite game is having a shoelace tied to my big tail so I can go round and round and round as fast as I can until it falls off. Then I cry until it is tied on again. I also enjoy bringing mom all my toys when she is in bed just in case she might want to play with them too. Now you see why I'm so special!
