We
have a nomination for you, her name is Zoë (pronounced Zoë). Zoë is not a
hard luck story, but we feel very lucky to have her as an addition to our
family. On January 26, 2008 we took another of our cats, Ripley for his
routine drop off vet visit. When we go to our vet, located inside a PetSmart
with adoption services, we always go and love on the cats they have up for
adoption. There just happened to be three kittens available. My daughter just
fell in love with this little angel, I wish we could have adopted them all,
but we just couldn't. However, my daughter was so intent on having this
little girl that she volunteered to pay for the adoption, the first vet
visit, her food and her cat litter! Who could say no to that on top of
getting this adorable, unique kitty. The vet called her a "talico" cat (daddy
was an orange tabby and mommy was a calico). We set up my daughter's room as
a nursery and kept the baby in her room for two weeks before introducing her
to our other three kitties. She fits right into our family, but Zoë and
Ripley get along the best of the four we have. Zoë still sleeps mostly with
my daughter, but if she is sleeping somewhere else, it is with Ripley. Zoë
and Ripley groom each other, play with each other (it is so funny to watch a
little bitty kitty chase a much bigger kitty around), sleep touching each
other and will share food.
The first week or so after summer break started, Zoë would still wake my
daughter up at 7:00 AM by getting right up in her face and touching my
daughter's nose with her cold nose and rubbing her face while purring very
loudly. While my daughter didn't mind the alarm clock, she didn't know how to
turn it off! And all Zoë would want is love, which my daughter would supply
lots of. Now Zoë just sleeps in with her, looking up as the rest of us walk
by, then going back to sleep curled up right next to her "Mama". Zoë
definitely loves her "Mama" the most, preferring her above all others, human
or feline. While Zoë is partial to "Mama" she will let others love on her if
"Mama" is unavailable. By the way, my daughter still pays for Zoë's food and
litter, cleans out one of the three litter boxes regularly and gives all the
love she can to that little girl.
