Kolya
is a New England (specifically Rhode Island) fish kitty. After our
daughter graduated from college, she wanted to have an adventure and live in
New England for two years. So we moved her to Rhode Island, and the apartment
complex she was in only allowed cats, no dogs. She had really wanted a dog,
but she reluctantly started looking for a cat. She found a lady whose cat had
kittens, and she was trying to place them in good homes. My daughter picked
out Kolya thinking he was a girl kitty. When she took him to the vet the first
time, the vet looked at Kolya, then looked at her and said, "honey, this is a
boy kittie!" So she had to pick a boy's name and chose "Kolya" from the movie
by that name about a young boy in Prague. When she moved back to Texas, my
wife and I took Kolya on the flight back home, and he ended up staying with us
permanently. My daughter felt that we had more space and wouldn't be moving
around.
Kolya is definitely the alpha male of our house. His main job is keeping our
other four cats in line. On a daily basis he must check to see that his minions
are keeping their place. He loves to have his ears scratched, and is certainly
a mommy's boy! He is my wife's cat. He loves any kind of fish and seafood,
like shrimp or lobster.
One last humorous story about Kolya: When our youngest female kitty was a
kitten, she would always bother and harass Kolya. When Kolya had had enough,
he would take his front right paw and hold her head on the floor until she
settled down and would leave him alone!
We love Kolya and he is always the well-dressed, debonair, sophisticated man
about town.
