About Us
Abercrombie, the Cat of the Day
Name: Abercrombie
Age: Three years old
Gender: Female
Kind: Domestic Shorthair
Home: Huntsville, Alabama, USA

Through the month of May last year, a lovely gray and white cat would come by our home to visit. We assumed the cat was a neighborhood cat, but it never seemed to go home. We became concerned about her because an occasional coyote or fox would wander through our yard at night. During the day hawks would circle about, hunting prey. Fortunately the cat appeared to be a bit too heavy to be hoisted into the air and taken away.

As we became increasingly concerned, we would trick the cat into entering our garage at night, and lock her in until daybreak. She did not like this, thinking she would be kept a prisoner forever, and protested loudly. Before long, summer heat being what it is in June in Alabama, the garage became too hot, even at night. Why did we not trick her into the house and really hold her prisoner full time? We already had five cats - a gray tabby, a calico, a Maine Coon, a Norwegian Forest Cat, and a solid black cat who was once a feral cat. All had been rescues.

Eventually we could stand it no more, and Abercrombie, which is what we named her, moved into a two room suite at the top of our house. During the transition to becoming an indoor cat, Abercrombie learned to enter the elevator voluntarily, turning to face the front as the door shut. To our surprise, Abercrombie never showed any desire to again go outside. She was already litter trained, loved to play and is exceptionally friendly.

Abercrombie is wonderful cat. She will sit with us for hours, allowing us to pet and rub her, always purring with pleasure and joy. She is playful and indefatigable. She will chase her toys (and us), climb upon her perch, jump to the windowsills, turn large sheets of paper into confetti, and generally delight us and herself until we can play no more.

Abercrombie knows we are her family, and all of us are delighted that we are. We have been truly blessed by this lovely cat.
