This
is Tank the Cat. I don't know much about him other than what my
mother told me. She adopted him about four years ago and the only sight
I ever saw of him was a white streak heading down the hall as he bolted
for under the bed when I came by to visit. The story my mother told me
is he was attacked by a dog and that's how he lost his eye and why he
was so skittish when it came to strangers.
Mom always made me promise that I would take care of her cat if she
died. So in May I honored my word and Tank moved in with me. At first he
spent the days hiding under the bed only to come out for food when no
one was around. Slowly he has become more sociable and for the most part
behaves like other cats do. But the dog attack has left some lasting
damage as he startles very easily if approached from his blind side and
he cannot jump. And when he eats his crunchies it looks like a little
bomb went off as kibble is scattered everywhere. Must be a vision thing
I guess. The stairs present a slight problem for him, as every step
requires him to bunny-hop up, but traveling downstairs he has no issues
and the journey sounds more like rumbling thunder than an agile feline.
He no longer hides under the bed but instead climbs his own little cat
staircase to the top of the bed where he can sprawl out in the peace and
comfort he deserves.
Tank. He's my buddy.
