Nina
has been my pet for eleven years now. Before I adopted her, she
lived on the street. The vet thought she was about three to five years
old when I adopted her, so I have to guess as to her actual age. Since
then she has been my best friend, through thick and thin, through five
different moves. In our time together, she has learned the learned the
hard way not to eat the houseplants after getting prickers in her face
from a cactus. She also learned how to get along with dogs and other
cats, and how to accept being displaced by a human child, though we
tried to tell her we loved her just as much when the baby came home.
She discovered that she had to tolerate strangers who think they can
just walk right up and pet her without first seeking permission, as she
prefers. She is such a pretty girl that people just want to pet her. She
knowns to tolerate a big stinky tortoise wandering around her domain.
And most important of all these, she learned how to know when I really
need a purring lap-warmer to make my night a happy one. I feel so lucky
to have found her.
