Indy, the Cat of the Day
Name: Indy
Age: Two years old
Gender: Male
Kind: Domestic Short Hair
Home: Palatine, Illinois, USA

Indy came into our lives at ten weeks of age. I had gotten it in my head that I should get a cat, as I had never had a pet growing up and I wanted a kitty of my own. The pet store called saying that they had gotten kittens in, so I went down to look at them. The one orange and white tabby they had curled up in my arms and was mine. But there was another little kitten in the cage that was absolutely hysterical to get my attention. While the other kittens napped or played, this little guy jumped at the cage, frantically waving his paws at me. I fell in love, and that's how Indy came home with us. The other little kitten turned out to have F.I.P. (Feline infectious peritonitis), and he passed away at six months of age. When Indy's playmate passed, his behavior changed. He started to get into everything. He taught himself how to open the kitchen cabinet doors. I would find him under the sink playing in the pots and pans.

We decided that if we were to get another kitty, we should do it while he was young. Soon after, a lady at work was giving away free kittens. I came home with a six-week-old kitten, another orange and white companion for Indy. Indy wasn't so sure about her for the first 24 hours, but after that, he became her big brother. He always looked after her, and they are still best buddies today.

Indy got his name early on due to his adventurous nature. As a youngster, he was the first to be into everything. At the time, the new Indiana Jones movie was coming out, so Indy seemed a perfect name for this rambunctious little fellow.

Indy is a licker. He earned a nickname early in his life of Licky McLickerson. Every morning, I get a full facial lick-bath from Indy to tell me that he is ready for me to get up and feed him. Sometimes, if I am curled up on the couch reading or watching tv, he will come lay on me and lick and purr and lick and lick.

Indy loves attention, and he loves company. If you were to come to visit, Indy would be quite sure you were there to see him. And if you did not pay him enough attention, he would put his paws on your legs and meow at you. Indy also loves food. He is not the alpha cat in our house in any aspect, except at the food dish. He eats first, and he headbutts any cat that might come in his way. He loves every kind of cat food we can give him, and if he were allowed, he would probably eat me out of house and home of human food too.

Indy is a sweet and loving boy who is absolutely the joy of my life. I am grateful to have Indy in my life, and I wanted to share his sweetness with the world.
