Nanook
is a three-year-old white short-haired beauty! Aside from one black hair
that grows on the top of her head she is white from head to toe! I got her at
the Humane Society about six months ago and we have been falling deeper and
deeper in love since then. I didn't realize it at the time I got her, but she
was severely underweight. I thought she was just a little cat, but when I
began feeding her the normal allotted amount for her age and weight, she
gained two pounds in three months (which is a lot for a cat)! Now she is very happy
and healthy.
Nanook means "polar bear" in the Iniut language that it comes from, so I
thought it was an appropriate name for a white kitty. She came with the name
"Snow Kitty," which was totally unacceptable.
She sleeps next to my head every night, and in the morning wakes me up to be
fed by pawing at my face. She never bites or scratches (except if she's
feeling really playful, and even then it's just a gentle nibble.)
She loves to have her belly rubbed and will often roll right over onto her
back if you go in for it. She runs to the door to greet me with a series of
meeeeows every time I come home, and proceeds to follow me around until I put
down my bags and pet her. She usually follows me around the house in general,
and waits outside the bathroom for me. String, q-tips, and bottle caps are
her favorite toys. She likes to carry her prizes around in her mouth. The
other day she was very proud when she dug a neon-pink whipped cream top out of
the trash. It was adorable!
Well, she's just about the best thing that's ever happened to me and I hope
everyone gets a chance to bond with an animal, as I have, at some point in
their life.
