Raymond, the Cat of the Day
Name: Raymond
Age: Unknown
Gender: Male
Kind: Domestic Shorthair
Home: Medfield, Massachusetts, USA

I would like to introduce you to Raymond - a cat aptly named because indeed everyone does love Raymond, and understandably so since it would be difficult to imagine a sweeter guy or better cat companion. Raymond and I start each morning with a "walk" outside. I put him in a harness and leash, an indignity he has reluctantly learned to accept since it is the only way he is allowed outside. Sometimes he spends these "walks" exploring every nook and cranny of the yard, or watching the squirrels run around, or chasing flies and other creatures, and sometimes he just lays down and enjoys being in the sun and fresh air. Raymond is a voracious hunter. He quickly took care of my mouse problem and he loves to visit his aunt and uncle who have chipmunks living in their basement.

Raymond loves to have visitors - the more the merrier if you ask him. The more people around, the more chance for affection, attention, and someone willing to play with him. Of course as far as he is concerned, all visitors are here for just those purposes. And, like all cats, Raymond loves to sleep and he loves to eat. His favorite visitors, offers to go outside or to play are all ignored if it's naptime. If you are looking for a cat to get you out of bed early in the morning, Raymond is not your guy. Raymond has a good appetite and keeps up his "muscular build" by being alert to whatever may be on my plate. After all, it's hard to resist home cooking when most of ones meals are from a can!

I'm not sure Raymond's favorite activities are much different than other cats. It is his easy-going, sweet and affectionate nature that makes him special. I became Raymond's foster mother when he was in a six month quarantine at the Medfield Animal Shelter as the result of "wounds of unknown origin." It was almost certainly being hit by a car that left him with one eye, a permanently damaged jaw, and a tongue that often sticks out of his mouth. In spite of four surgeries in the past year, Raymond continues to enjoy life, people, and new adventures. When I became Raymond's foster mother, I was adamant that he would not stay beyond the quarantine period. Here we are almost a year later and Raymond is a permanent member of the family and a constant source of happiness, laughter and entertainment.
