This
is Stella, my friend and companion for the past year. I inherited her
when her previous owner went travelling. She was a rescue cat originally,
so there is some doubt as to her age, but her tiny size makes it hard for
people to believe that she is, by now, a middle-aged lady.
She is incredibly dainty, floating around the flat that is her boudoir with
only the very tips of her claws clicking on the floor. As you can see, she
is perfectly beautiful, with olive green eyes and gold-and-black stripes.
She also has a gorgeous ginger tummy, that one tickles at one's peril (this
cat has claws!).
Stella spends her days sleeping on my sofa, my bed or my bookshelf, waking
up to clean herself and to drift from her food bowl to the plants in my
living-room, which she loves to rub with her cheeks and occasionally to
nibble. She cries when I come home from work, and won't settle until I've
picked her up and cuddled her (though she's not keen to be cuddled at other
times of the day). She hates it when I read, work on my laptop, or have a
go on my PlayStation. She prefers to watch me play with her cat toys,
though she rarely plays with them herself. She also loves to sit at the
window, 'talking' to birds as they swoop past: she looks a little sad when
the birds don't talk back to her.
At night, she either sleeps at my feet or tramples on my head until I get
up and give her a midnight snack. As you can tell, she is a lady who knows
her own mind, and always gets what she wants!
