This
is Schatzi, my Domestic Medium Hair (is he not the most handsome cat
ever). My family rescued him from a pet store, which in turn had rescued
him and his sister off the streets - he was eight weeks old and just a scrawny
tiny thing. His name fit him so well, as Schatzi means "Little Treasure."
Well, my "little" treasure is now five years old and weighs fourteen pounds - all of
it muscle and fur! Since I'm a very paranoid mommy he stays indoors at all
times, and had entirely taken over our home - jumping on the dining table to
sample our food, yowling loudly at any closed door in the house until it is
opened (even at 2 a.m.), and fearlessly chasing our 60-pound Belgian Malinois!
Schatzi's newest endeavor is attempting to open a door by using the
doorknob. He stands on his hind legs and wraps his front paws around the
doorknob, twisting his body from left to right - it's only a matter of time
before he gets that door open!
Schatzi is quite a character, and definitely knows what he wants - one evening
we were enjoying a spaghetti dinner as Schatzi lay on the dining table near my
husband. Suddenly, without even standing up, Schatzi stretched out an arm,
grabbed a big paw full of spaghetti from my husband's plate, and dragged it
over to his little face! Schatzi always enjoys meowing at the bathroom door
when it is closed, and stretching his whole little arm beneath the door -
waving his paw around on the other side to see if he can make contact with
somebody. He snores loudly when he sleeps - we can easily hear him over the
sound of the tv. That is actually, to me, the most charming part of my cat.
His favorite game to play with me is our own version of "Hide and Seek", where
I catch his eye and then run at top speed and hide around a corner somewhere
in the house. Schatzi then tries to sneak up on me - the object is to see who
can jump out and startle the other player - and he almost always wins! He
also loves playing with drinking straws, balls of tinfoil, and the plastic
rings from milk cartons - while ignoring the $10 toys I buy him at Petco. He
loves when I use my nails to give him a back scratch, and when he's in a
wonderful mood he gives me little love nips on the hand. I truly love my
Hide-and-Seek playing, spaghetti-stealing, loud snoring, dog chasing Schatzi!
