I
had been talking about adopting a cat to keep our cat, Noodle company.
Although I hadn't mentioned it to my husband (especially since he wasn't big
on the idea of getting a second cat), I was thinking an orange boy. Well, my
husband (knowing he had to do the one thing to get himself out of the doghouse
after failing to acknowledge our tenth wedding anniversary) went to the Humane
Society all by himself and picked out "Kit Kat" and brought her home to
surprise me. She's not orange and she's not a boy, but I wouldn't trade her
for anything. We renamed her "Olive" because she is the "olive branch" my
husband extended to me.
Olive is crazy about Noodle and wants to do everything like her big sister.
They are typical sisters -- some days Noodle loves her; other days not so
much. Olive wanted to be held and petted constantly for about the first week
she was here proving she was affectionate just like the card on her cage at
the Humane Society said. Now that Olive knows she is in her forever home, she
has decided that cuddle time is at 5:00 a.m. when she apparently thinks it is
time to wake up. Olive is very vocal and seems to know what day of the week is
CATturday because that is tuna day. For a little girl who supposedly was found
on the streets, she is high maintenance!
Olive is strictly an inside girl but she loves watching out the windows and
talking to the birds. She also loves to climb and scratch on her cat tree.
Ollie has tons of toys, but she always seems to find and play with the things
she shouldn't have like rubber bands, bugs and twist-ties. Then she pouts when
I take them away. We live on a golf course, so when I say "Papaw may be
golfing today," both our girls run to the window to watch for their grandpa.
Olive and my husband have a special bond because he picked her out and she
knows he saved her. And, of course, Olive and I have a special bond, too,
because she's a constant reminder of my husband's good heart.
