Luke
was born on the morning of Easter Sunday of this year at a horse
stable. Initially he was thought dead among with his littermates and was
placed in a box for later burial. I happened upon the box later that
afternoon and was mourning the loss of the kittens as I picked each little
body up. When I came to Luke's he moved his front paws ever so slightly. I
immediately started massaging his little body and quickly took him and his
mama to a safe area and placed them in a box together. His mama started
grooming him and I left them both with a prayer.
The next day I stopped in and Luke was alive! A week later the barn owner
asked if I would take Luke and his mama home with me and I agreed. Sadly a
few days later, Luke's mama died of septicemia due to a retained placenta.
So at two weeks old Luke was orphaned and my husband and I became his
surrogate parents.
He is now nine weeks old, but this picture is from when he was six weeks
old, and held still for a moment! Luke is thriving today and is a joy to us
and a little terror to the other seven cats we have. But we are so blessed
with this Easter miracle and he was named after one of the disciples in
celebration of his own "resurrection." He is special in every possible way!
