I
found Cosmo at a shelter in Virginia while I was going to college in
Washington, D.C. As soon as I saw him, I was immediately drawn to him
because of his long silky hair and his piercing green eyes. When I went
over to his cage, he immediately came over and began licking my hand and
rubbing his face against me. Because Cosmo was almost a year old when I
adopted him, I asked the woman at the shelter how such a beautiful and
sweet cat could be up for adoption at a year old. She informed me that the
shelter received a call from a woman about a litter of kittens her neighbor
had been keeping in a box in their backyard through the winter. For the
first six months of his life, Cosmo was kept outside in the cold in a
rabbit hutch with his mother and litter mates. He had never been around
people, or socialized. He had never even seen sunlight, and didn't know how
to use a litter box. After Cosmo was rescued, he was placed in a foster
home where he could be socialized, learn to use a litter box and be
prepared to go to his forever home.
To me, Cosmo is not only beautiful on the outside, he's beautiful on the
inside as well. Despite his rough start in life, Cosmo is the friendliest
cat you'll ever meet. He loves meeting new people, and greets everyone with
a lick and a head rub. To me, Cosmo represents the spirit of hope, trust,
love, resiliency and overcoming obstacles. Cosmo likes to play with his
four brothers and sisters, and especially enjoys catnip!
