Lucky,
as we call him, was a neighborhood stray cat, who at first was so
suspicious of humans when we observed him in February of 2003, that he would
not look at us. We observed him stalking birds at our feeder, and
unfortunately, he caught a couple of unsuspecting birds prior to him being
relegated to an indoor cat. We named him Lucky, since we felt that he was very
lucky to have a home, after apparently being abandoned and possibly hurt by
someone. In fact, when we took him to get checked out and neutered, the vet
discovered that he had a seriously infected left front toe, which had to be
removed to avoid further complications. This loss of one toe has not slowed
this cat down at all - he love to chase cat toys and can out-run our lab and
all the other cats with no problem, and he climbs the cat tree as if he were a
squirrel.
As mentioned, he was so shy when we first encountered him that it took many
weeks before he would accept food while we were present in our! back yard (we
thought it was our yard, though he thought it was his). Eventually Lucky began
to trust us enough to take food a few feet away as we sat on the patio; now he
is spoiled by having a loving home, that he is jealous if we pay attention to
our other cats or dog. For a cat who was so shy at one time, he now cannot get
enough attention!
