Luna
first came into my life on St. Patrick's Day 2004. She was the runt and
the last born of the litter that my Maine Coon, Gaia, that I previously
rescued from the humane society had. Gaia was only nine months old when I
spotted her. She was mangled and matted and very skinny, but I thought she was
the most beautiful cat I had ever seen. I adopted Gaia and took her to the vet
to get spayed. They informed me that she was pregnant. I decided to let the
pregnancy come to term, and get her spayed afterwards. I am so thankful that I
made that decision because out of Gaia's pregnancy I received the best cat I
have ever known, Luna. As soon as I saw her I said "That is my cat, and her
name is Luna."
Luna and I were inseparable the moment she was out of the womb. I would carry
her with me everywhere and she would lay by me at night. Luna is the type of
cat that comes when she is called and always wants to be next to you. When I
come home she is the first to greet me even before my large and pushy dogs.
She gets so excited when you speak to her that she does somersaults and side
flips. She has always been such an uplifting spirit and she never seems to
have a bad day.
Almost two years ago, Luna and I had a really terrible scare. She got bit by a
flea that was infected with feline infectious anemia. I took her to the vet
many times before we got the correct diagnosis. The vet even said that there
was nothing he could do and to just let her die. She was yellow all over and
had lost all of her pigmentation. Luna was spending a majority of her time
in the bath tub curled up in a ball and purring very loudly to soothe herself.
She wouldn't eat and was looking quite miserable. Always a hefty cat, Luna was
down to skin and bones. She looked like she just wanted to give up and it
broke my heart. After three months of leaving work every couple hours to feed
Luna through a tube, giver her medicine, and hold her in a warm towel, she
finally started to improve. She was back to her old cuddly self within six months.
Today Luna is as healthy as she has ever been. She is the happiest and most
loving cat I could ever ask for. I just don't know what I would have done
without her.
