I
would like to introduce you to Monica. Her life had a very hard beginning.
She sort of belonged to one of my neighbors, an elderly gentleman that took
some care of her till he had to move to a senior citizens' home. Then she was
abandoned, and wandered around the neighborhood from one house to another (I
live in the country area, so she hunted as much as she could...). She was a very
skinny and starved cat.
My cats didn't get along with her for a long time, so at first I didn't think
about taking her home. But after she had litter after litter of kittens I
pitied her and took her to the vet to be neutered.
From there to totally adopt her it was a short way. It was amazing to see the
process. I have a cat-door installed in the kitchen door, and she knew how to
use it even before I decided to take her in - she used to get in to steal
food...After I decided to keep her, she used to get in and stay in the kitchen.
It took a long time to persuade her to enter the living room. She could not
believe that she was allowed in. She did it a few steps further each time: the
kitchen, then the living room (very close to the kitchen door, to run away if
needed...), each time getting closer and closer to me.
Today she is a totally different cat: fat, and sure of herself (sits on me any
opportunity she has), and tries to rule the house. My cats still don't get
along very good, especially Monica and Blanca, but I'm very glad I decided to
take her in. Monica is a wonderful cat, and I love her very much.
