Here
is a picture of Lucy. She is seven years old in this picture, but
still kitten sized. She only weighs six pounds. Lucy is unusual. She acted
like a dog. She'd walk on a leash, beg for food and her favorite food was
anything we were eating.
Lucy was very special to me and my husband. I taught her how to tap my
hand for a treat. I'd put a treat in one hand and ask her to touch the
hand with the treat. She would do that but didn't always get the hand with
the treat. Right or wrong, she always got a treat in the end. Lucy put her
best paw forward when doing that trick. She'd been doing this trick now
for about a year. We have taken Lucy and her brother Joey on camping trips
close to home. Lucy enjoyed camping once in a while. But there's no place
like home. We have an awesome neighbor who took great care of Lucy and
Joey when we travelled without them. They loved her and expected food
whenever she comes to the house. Lucy loved to follow her around the house
and paw at her legs until she put the food down.
Lucy had zero fear. She followed the vacuum while her brother (fifteen
pounds) runs and hides. When we had her on a leash in the front yard and
dogs would come up to her, she didn't care about them. She was there to
eat grass and stalk the birds and squirrels. When she was younger she used
to go next door while the boys were playing basketball and lay there while
they played. Recently Lucy was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure.
She was on meds, and seemed to be doing fine. She was named after Lucille
Ball. Lucy, like her namesake, was always into something. She had to be
where the action is. We love her and her brother.
As of February 11 at 8 pm we had to have Lucy put to rest. She was unable
to make a comeback even with all the medications she was on. It was a hard
decision but we know it best for her. Lucy will always have a special
place in our hearts. It's true: Cats do leave paw prints on the heart.
