This
is my gorgeous cat Misty. She's pretending she's fast asleep in her
favorite spot - her hammock over the radiator. If you look closely, though,
you can see her eyes are just slightly open - watching in case you're up to
something!
She's a South African cat. We brought her with us when we left SA to come
back to England as we couldn't bear the thought of leaving her behind.
Contrary to what we imagined, she loved being in quarantine. She doesn't like
other cats, likes to eat, loves to sleep and be fussed over (when it suits
her), and so being in quarantine she had just about everything she wanted. She
came out rather fat and even more laid back than before.
Although she looks fluffy and very cuddly, she doesn't like being picked up
much, and you only touch her tummy and back feet if you have a death wish.
Having said that, she tolerates just about anything our seven-year-old daughter
does to her, and has never attempted to scratch her.
She's getting on a bit now, and her kidneys are starting to give us some cause
for concern. She's on medication for the rest of her life, and she's supposed
to be eating special food to help with her kidney function, but she hates it
so much I just can't deprive her of her favorite food in her twilight years.
I would hate to be force-fed food that I don't like one day when I'm retired,
so I don't think it's fair to do the same to her. I know it's probably not
helping, but I just want to see her happy...
She's been a real friend over the years. Every night she climbs up onto my
lap to watch TV, and I love having her cuddle in to me every night, even if
she does take up half the bed and growls at me if I try to move her...
