Sonny
was adopted by me three years ago as a rescue kitty. I had just lost
one of my other boys to illness and wasn't particularly interested in getting
another one. But my good friend, who works with a rescue organization,
convinced me that I should just "look" at some of her kittens over an adoption
weekend at one of the local pet stores. I spent the day visiting most of the
pet stores on my side of town and almost gave up as none of them tugged at my
heart. For some unknown reason, I drove clear across Las Vegas to make one
last sweep of pet stores. Something was calling me, urging me to make just
one more round before going home. After all, I still had my Alex to keep me
company and he would get used to being an "only child," I was pretty certain.
Lo and behold, I walk into the pet store and there was my friend, working that
particular adoption event. She immediately went to a cage and pulled out this
little black and white kitten for me. I told her I wasn't interested in a
black and white, I wanted an orange kitty because they have such great
personalities. She said "just hold him for a minute" and I had no choice but
to take him in my arms. It was love at first squeeze. Sonny was curious,
wiggly, nuzzling in my arms and his purr machine was in full throttle.
Needless to say, it suddenly didn't matter what color he was; he was mine.
He has adapted well to his new home and snuggles with Alex every night when
it's time for us to go to bed. My cats are best friends and when I think how
I almost didn't get him, it makes me almost sick. He is such a character and
makes me laugh each and every day. Just look at that face!
