I
adopted D'Arcy from Siamese Rescue in Virginia when he was nine months
old. He had spent his first seven months in a shelter and then adopted by
someone who only kept him two months and dropped him off at another
shelter in a different state. He was then pulled into Siamese Rescue where
I found him. I'd adopted from them before with very happy results which is
why I went looking for another family member there. I'd just been
reactivated for adoption status when this little guy came in. His previous
owner (of two months) had written that he was not compatible with other
cats and claimed he was aggressive, suggesting that he be placed in a home
with no other cats. His foster Mom saw none of this with him. He quickly
bonded with her older male cat and was following him everywhere. He made
no moves toward her other cats at all. So after some long chats we decided
that he'd make a fine addition to our family. I already had two other
Siamese, Blue (a blue-point) who was my original Siamese from a breeder,
and Terra, a tortie point Siamese from Siamese Rescue. Both were young at
the time, just two years old.
We drove down to get him in New Hampshire and drove him back, it took
twelve hours for the round trip. He was an angel on the way home, not a
peep out of him at all. He arrived scared stiff though, he was terrified
of men and would run when he saw my husband coming. It took months of
quiet talking and lots of petting for him to trust him, but now he sits on
the back of his chair and comes and asks for affection several times a
day. As for the other two cats, within days he was bonded with both of
them, especially Blue at first but he and Terra discovered they enjoyed
all the same games and it didn't take long before I'd be finding all three
cuddled together fast asleep. I have no idea what his previous owner was
talking about, he's never shown any aggression, hissed, swatted or done
anything other then wanting to play. But he certainly showed us that he'd
once been mistreated and we had to earn his trust. Thankfully we did
because this little guy is so full of love and affection and is such a
joy. I couldn't have asked for a better result/match.
He plays all the time, is full of energy, loves to be groomed, follows us
everywhere when he's not sleeping and even loves the grandchildren when
they visit. He's a total joy!
