This
is a photo of our snow cat! His name is Max. He's just turned three
and is a purebred, pedigreed Siberian. We got him and his brother Samson
from a wonderful breeder in Minneapolis; Starberian Cattery. We live in
Toronto Ontario and have a large balcony where they love to spend a great
deal of time, rain, snow or shine.
This breed has a triple coat and they are originally from the forests of
Siberia so really love the great outdoors, as you can see. Max currently
weighs in at almost fifteen pounds, his brother the same. They won't be
fully grown until they are five so they are going to be huge. They really
are more like dogs that cats though, eternally curious and prone to
problem-solving. Max has figured out how to open an upper kitchen cabinet,
and climb up three nearly vertical shelves to investigate a bag where I
used to keep his cat treats. They are both on a strictly raw food diet (we
buy from Feline's Pride in the US) and our vet still is awed at how
incredibly healthy they are.
Max has always loved the snow. He can sit there for hours and allow
himself to get covered. His favorite pastime is hunting the squirrels who
dare to come near his territory. We had to use pigeon netting to enclose
our balcony after both Max and Samson cleared a 7' fence to get at said
cheeky squirrel. It's now at 8' and holding. They are both leash trained
and thoroughly enjoy walks out with us. I've attached a leash picture just
so you can see. Max even likes to leap up onto the trees we pass. He kind
of hangs there until I put my hands on him, and then he lets go so I can
put him down on the ground, where he raises to the next one!
