This
is my sweet Molly, a Siamese mix with blue eyes and torti and tabby
markings. I adopted Molly when she was five from the Modjeska Ranch Rescue at
the PetSmart near my home. The rescue had taken her in several weeks earlier
when her elderly owner could no longer care for her.
I have always enjoyed the beauty of the Siamese mix, but was also drawn to
meet Molly by the bio the rescue wrote for her. They described her as a calm
cat that hated (!) other cats and needed to be in a quiet one-cat only home.
My home is quiet and I had no other cats. So Molly came to live with me, as an
indoor-only cat. I have large windows that go down to the floor, so she can
stay in touch safely with what's happening outside·birds, bunnies and
butterflies.
True to the Siamese breed, Molly is quite a talker. It took me a while to
learn her language, and I think she was frustrated that I didn't immediately
understand her. Now that I understand Siamese, I am able to serve her as she
expects. Molly has also learned a little English and can say "No" and "Mama,"
with a slight Siamese accent.
This little girl is very curious about everything in our home, no matter how
high. It's like having a two-year-old who's five feet tall, so I'm constantly
child-proofing to hide anything sharp or harmfully edible, like string or
rubber bands. She loves her parakeet brother Maxie, and likes to sit by his
cage to listen to him chatter.
I encourage anyone interested in a new pet to adopt from a shelter or a
rescue. There are many homeless animals available and many humans working hard
to save their lives and find them new homes. It's easy to find just the right
pet, whether you want a purebred or a beautiful mix like Molly.
