Joe,
a long-haired tabby, was fifteen-years-old when he left us on 9 May '08
due to renal failure. Joe was a gentle, handsome and loveable cat who
lived indoors all his life, savored his treats, insisted rather loudly
for his nighttime dinner, lolled in the sun, chittered at the birds,
growled at other cats who dared to walk on the back deck and thoroughly
relished his morning, afternoon and evening naps. I adopted him with his
sister when they were only twelve weeks old from the local humane society.
Joe developed the habit of sitting on my crossword puzzle every Saturday
morning and purr, as if to say, "I can do this too!" Now that he is
gone, it's a very painful loss and I expect to hear his clear meow when
I arrive home as he did before, see him perched in a favorite napping
spot or playing with one his favorite toys, a cloth banana filled with
catnip. But Joe will still be with me because I plan to inter his ashes
below a new rose bush I will plant in the garden and that rose will be his.
