Rufus
joined us in September 2004, a few months after we lost our calico
cat Jill to diabetes. We were at a no-kill cat shelter, and he reached
his paw out to us. (His kennel door was left open so he could come and
go because he got along so well with the other cats).
Rufus is the best companion. He loves to sit in laps, have his head and
ears rubbed, and to be carried around the house in a sheet, as if he was
in a bag. Rufus particularly likes to help us make the bed, which we can
do in fifteen minutes with his help compared to 90 seconds without his help.
He likes to be combed and brushed, and actually is really good about
having his nails trimmed. He loves to chase his twine toy, and every so
often he shreds a roll of toilet paper.
Rufus is very much a lap cat, and every night he sleeps under the covers
with me. He prefers simple toys that he discovers over the fancy ones we
buy. His favorite is a piece of twine with a twist-tie tied to the end.
We drag it around when he gets his burst of energy about nine or ten at
night, and then he is ready to rest.
Rufus has brought so much life and energy to us, and we love him very
much.
