A Saturday afternoon in the summer of 2007, my daughter and I had just finished taking a belly dance workshop in Tacoma, WA. Normally a trip to the big city includes dinner out at our favorite Indian restaurant. This trip we made a pit stop at the local animal shelter instead. In cage #34 sat a cat whom everyone passed by. My daughter pointed him out and said we should meet this one. So we did. He was the second of three cats we met that day. The moment he entered the adoption room I knew he was the right cat. He plopped on the table (gravity) and began to purr, he looked up with eyes that could melt the most hardened cat hater's heart. So we filled out the paperwork, paid his adoption fees, and since he was already neutered we got to take him home that day. He napped in my daughters arms on the hour long drive to his new home. Our bellies were empty but our hearts were full of love for the new addition.

His name is a little odd but trust me so is he. Vindaloo is a spicy yet sweet Indian dish, and that describes my cat perfectly!

Vin has been a joy since he first joined the family. He has so much character, and energy. His feline brothers and sister Eddie, Carmichael and Luna might have a different opinion. As he often rouses them into a game of "chase me through the House," or "pounce."

His first few months were exhausting as he had several bad habits, the worst of which was eating bread. Before Vin, a loaf was safe left on the counter. He thought the counter was a place for him to gather rations! I hid bread in a bread bin, which he learned to open, top the fridge he could reach and one cupboard he could open and eat his favorite food... bread. I guess part of his behavior was from being a starving stray and unsure of if and when he'd get a meal. Time, love and scat shock mats cured him of raiding the counters. He still is goofy and likes wearing a hoodie, plus he walks on a leash which is an attention getter at the local park. Everyone who meets him says what an interesting dude he is. I'm so enchanted by him, he is the greatest cat I have had the pleasure to have known. I love Vindaloo.
