This
is Josey. Josey came to us as a stray one day at four months old,
dragging up from the creek in the woods by the house, cold, wet and
hungry. All I could think of to feed her was Rice Krispies and milk. My
husband grew up with the mentality that all animals stay outside so he
warned me that she would be an outside cat. I knew not to push my luck,
so I agreed.
Fast forward a couple of weeks. Josey now had her own set of bowls, her
own food, and her own bed. I fought for her to be able to come inside
whenever she wanted and eventually Josey even got her own cat door!
She's still with us all these years later and she's definitely her
mother's girl. She's never far from me wherever I am and we have a deep
connection. I know she is the cat of a lifetime for me. She has a shy,
gentle nature, which I'm told is typical of her breed. We like it when
she opens her mouth and no sound comes out. She mostly squawks when she
does talk, she doesn't say "meow."
Back in the day she was an avid hunter. Her most memorable kills were a
bat and a hummingbird. She's slowed down over the years and now spends
her days sunning on the deck, napping in her bed, and talking to me
while I pet her soft fur or brush her. She's a real character and an
important part of our family. We think it's cool that she's older than
our fifteen-year-old son.
