This
is our beloved cat Kitty. I met Kitty at the MSPCA. She was just
three months old, with oversized ears and gangly legs. She put a
striped paw through the bars and tapped me - I was instantly smitten and
couldn't wait to bring her home and play with her.
Kitty is twelve years old and I still think of her as a little kitten.
She really loves corn-on-the-cob - not the corn itself, but the leaves
of the husk. She can smell fresh corn before it's out of the bag, and
comes running and meowing urgently! Then she stands on her hind legs and
snaps both paws around the corn, giving it a bearhug, and chews
contentedly on the leaves.
When we come home, Kitty stands on the carpet, waiting to do her
flopping trick: We count slowly, and as we count, she gently falls over
sideways in a big happy flop. If we've been away for the weekend,
she'll flop on the count on "1" to show how much she missed us. Other
times, we have to coax her by counting really slow. When she finally
flops we clap and give her lots of praise.
If we're sad or under the weather, Kitty knows, and takes care of us by
sitting close and purring. Almost every night she does her "cuckoos"
where she goes running through the house, makes crazy howls that sound
like a wolf, and jumps up to grab the banister (we call these "pole
jumps".) Kitty gives us lots of entertainment, attention, love, and
gratitude. We're so thankful to have such a special friend in our lives.
