I
work in a veterinary hospital on the island of Barbados in the
Caribbean. There are a large number of unwanted kittens brought into our
clinic every year and it's a tough job resisting taking every one of them
home. However, a couple have wiggled their way through my barrier of
common sense and Dexter Bean is one of those. Dexter is a domestic
shorthair and is entirely white except for one ear that is black and his
tail is black and tabby striped. He was found at approximately eight weeks
of age by a client outside her house by the beach.
The moment I saw him I knew where he was going to find a home! The
pictures shows him several months after he was rescued, at home in a plant
pot. He is now eighteen months old and firmly established in my household,
which consists of five dogs and another rescued cat. Dexter is a little
nervous with strangers but he and I have a special bond and I love it when
he comes in at night and curls up against me and goes to sleep. He is also
a top class hunter and though it freaks me out when he brings dead rodents
into the house, I am grateful that he is keeping the live ones out. He
certainly earns his keep! I have lots of other pet names for him but one
that I call him a lot is "Best" because he is the best cat in my world!
