Raven
chose me. In a no-kill shelter of over 200 cats, Raven
deliberately and determinedly wrapped her soft body around my neck and
purred voraciously. We already had three cats and were just visiting
the gorgeous critters to leave donations, but Raven had a mission.
Obviously, she ultimately accomplished her mission. Days later my
husband reluctantly agreed to a fourth cat. Raven's name came, as a
result, from Edgar Allen Poe's "Quoth the raven, 'Nevermore.'"
Raven cuddles like no other. She molds her heat-exuding body to my
face, my head, my side, or wherever else she can wedge herself. She's
slowly learning not to cover the nose and mouth. Miss Raven also tends
to only want what the other cats have... whether that is a lap or a
patch of sunlight. I belong to Raven, or so she thinks, and she
begrudgingly shares me with others.
What a privilege is has been to be picked by Raven. She is a
fur-covered treasure. I love this dainty yet doggedly persistent girl.
She has aged with such grace. Raven deserves to be celebrated.
