One
day five children in the neighborhood came running to me saying, "Ami,
Ami, you have to save this cat!" Since I already had four, I thought, "I
don't think so!" Well, when they told me that a mean child in the
neighborhood was throwing this cat over a six-foot wall (repeatedly), I
changed my mind. So there she was, a scared, eight-month-old ball of fur
only three pounds four ounces. The kids named her "Amee", after the person
in the neighborhood who had rescued so many other felines.
Although she was eight months old, she was only three pounds / fourteen
ounces. After a trip to the vet, we kept a close watch on her because her
blood test came out a close positive for FIV. But her immune system was
just weak, and she turned out to be fine. She ate as though she was never
fed before, so she was obviously not treated well before. She grew into
an odd shape (long and low) because she had such a poor beginning, but
today is happy and healthy and has never been ill. A month of good food
and alot of TLC brought a normal reading on the blood test.
Amee was given a new lease on life. Full grown, she is 8 1/2 pounds, but
still has a tiny head and short legs. One of my friends said she looked
like a mini "Lassie."
She brought a spirit of playfulness back to my three other cats. She began
teaching them to chase around the house for excercise. And each night,
while I'm asleep, she brings me all six of her (toy) mice.
