We
got Mackie from my mom and dad's farm in Iowa. He was only about six to
eight weeks old when we brought him home. My mom and dad have always had
lots of cats on the farm and this particular Thanksgiving we went home for
the holiday and mom was telling me about this new litter of kittens. So,
of course, I had to check them out. They have an old wash house where all
the cats stay and live for shelter from the cold Iowa winters.
Mackie was a little wild when I first saw him, but mom had started the
taming process and in no time I was able to get a hold of him and brought
him inside to play with him. He was pretty tiny and just warmed up to me
real quick by cuddling up on my chest and falling asleep. I, of course,
fell in love!! I noticed the tips of his ears were black and the
tip of his nose. This was caused by frost bite, apparently he had been out
exploring when it was too cold for him to leave the wash house.
I already had two cats at home and didn't know about a third one so I
told mom I would have to think about it and talk it over with my
husband. Well, we went back home for Christmas and guess what? Mackie
came home with us!! It was my Christmas present to myself!! He is such
a cutie and loveable little guy!! In the long run the tips of his ears
fell off because of the frost bite and so you will notice he has really
short ears, but is just as healthy and playful as ever.
He has two siblings, one older brother and one older sister! They were
not so sure of Mackie when he first came home cause he was so little and
so rambunctious, but soon they got acquainted and now they are the best
of buds!! Mackie keeps his brother and sister active by running from
one end of the house to the other and getting into whatever mischief
they can along the way. Even though he is almost three years old, he only
weighs eight pounds. I think the short ears stunted his growth! He is
so much fun though!!
