About Us
Princess, the Cat of the Day
Name: Princess
Age: Four years old
Gender: Female
Kind: Short Hair Domestic, Tuxedo
Home: San Jose, California, USA

Our kitty Princess is small, only about five pounds full grown, but stands her ground even with our big fourteen-pound cat Hunter. Princess was a rescue from being a stray, and has been with us most of her life. She believes she is part billy goat, and part meercat (which this picture shows).

Princess has a great personality. As a very small cat that was originally a stray, she is a little bit afraid and will run for cover if she gets spooked. When we first got her from the shelter she was quite ill, and took a few weeks to recover and put on some weight. She had a pretty bad virus, and spent the first few weeks with us shuttling back and forth between home and the vet. She is still a little spooked about getting into the carrier and the car. She did make a full recovery, and is very rambunctious.

She is affectionate, and likes to be petted, but on her own terms. When she wants attention, she will come into the room and repeat her demands for attention until she gets it. It's surprising that such a small cat can make such a loud meow. When she gets your attention, she will run into the bedroom and jump on the end of the bed, where she waits for you to come and pet her. If you don't, she'll repeat her performance of the loud serenade until you do. When you follow her into the room she will stand up on her back legs and head-butt your outstretched hand, then roll over so you can pet her. She repeats this until she has had enough, which is hard to do. She sleeps at the foot of our bed, with our other cat Hunter. Hunter is a male (also a rescue), about 14.5 pounds, and the alpha cat in the house. Even though he is much larger than Princess, she will stand on her back legs and lunge at his neck, trying to drag him down to play. They play together well, the usual games of cat tag, hide and seek and "attack" from the hiding places.

Princess (and Hunter too) both sit on command. Princess learned this trick very quickly, she loves to get treats, but will now sit even without a reward.

Princess is fearless, and will jump off of the bed, windowsill, etc., and even for a cat that is so small she can cover a long distance with her jumps, we believe she thinks she can fly.

She sits up on her back legs for very long periods of time (like the picture shows). We think she learned this because being so small she needs to sit-up to see outside (the screen door on the house has a kick-plate at the bottom and she can't see over the kick-plate if she sits down, she has to sit up).

Both Princess and Hunter are inside only cats, we don't want anything to happen to them outside. They get plenty of exercise chasing each other around the house, and both have their favorite spots to perch and look outside. Princess likes to jump up to the top of a storage cabinet in the closed garage, and from there climb into the storage platform in the rafters in the garage. There are vents in the front of the house such that she can lie down on the storage platform and look right out of the vents. She spends a lot of the daytime snoozing and looking a the birds through the vent.
