This
past September a group of my friends and I went to Vermont for a
"girls weekend." We stayed at our friend's trailer on ten acres of land.
Now mind you my friend doesn't live there, she is just is there at
random times. On the last evening we were there, she went out to have a
cigarette at two in the morning. Staggering out of the woods, came this
emaciated, matted, burr-filled beautiful cat. She fed him (the rest of
us were sleeping) and went to bed thinking if he was there in the
morning, we would try and find his owners.
Well, he was there in the morning and out of the six of us, Oliver kept
crawling in my lap and going to sleep. The girls kept saying "he is
meant to be your cat." I thought "No way, my husband is not a cat
person, we already have a dog and my special needs son Brandon hates
cats." We tried unsuccessfully to find Oliver's "family" so we decided to
take him home and if none of us could keep him, we would give him to a
cat rescue (no such thing in the part of Vermont we were in). Long
story short, we decided to keep Oliver on a "trial" basis. It didn't
take him long to find a "permanent" loving home.
On day two, while I was out, my husband called me to say the most
remarkable thing had happened. He went to get something out of the
garage for about two minutes. When he came back in he couldn't find
Brandon in his usual t.v. room. He raced up the stairs thinking "I hope
Oliver didn't scratch or scare him." At the top of the stairs he found
Brandon with Oliver curled up in his lap sleeping, while my son was
petting him. About three weeks after that his teacher asked what was
different at home recently because Brandon was more focused and doing
better in school.
And as you can see, he quickly filled out and become the handsome cat on
the outside to match his beautiful spirit.
We now know why Oliver "found" us.
