Burble-urp, the Cat of the Day
Name: Burble-urp
Age: Eight years old
Gender: Female
Kind: Tortoiseshell
Home: Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Meet "THE BEST ONE" - our "Burble-urp!" She is truly "the best one" - she purrs like a house afire and she licks your hand or your nose, and she loves to fetch spongy balls. She is the most beautiful cat who was ever born in the world, and such a great mother!

We named her "Burble-urp" because that's the sound she made when she was pregnant and anyone came into her birthing room - "burble-urp!" She was a homeless girl who claimed us just after we moved into our new neighborhood, over ten years ago. We loved her from the moment she ran up to welcome us... 'free WITH a good home!' It was love at first snuggle!

A few days later, she gave birth to four gorgeous kittens! They were born in a Tupperware tub in our living room. What a great mother she was! As the kittens became more independent, we set up a shallow children's swimming pool enclosure that included a small litter box, kitten-food, water dishes and toys for the kittens.

They were the most beautiful kittens who were ever born in the world! (Please see the picture below.) We found homes for three of the four kittens, but no one seemed to want the runt of the litter, so now she's our darling "baby" - although she's seven years old now! We just had to keep that fourth little squeaker at the back, whose name is Burford. She was named Burford after the "Stacey" character played by Jerry Van Dyke in the 1960s Dick Van Dyke TV show. Stacey was a discreet sleepwalker, and you could only tell that he was sleepwalking when he called everyone Burford. We were afraid to get too attached to the kittens, so we called them all Burford - "the grey Burford," "the beige Burford," "the point Burford," (because she has a beige exclamation point on her face) and "the other Burford."

We kept that squeaker in the background, "the point Burford" and now, 9 years later, she's our Burfie! She and her mother live with us and our other three rescued cats - all saved from a nasty life on the street by The Annex Cat Rescue, the most loving and effective volunteer cat rescue group in Toronto, Canada.

Every day, we tell our Burble-urp (a.k.a. Blurpee) that she is the "best one!" We are so lucky to have our five wonderful kitties - they brighten every day and we love them all so much!
