Here
is my lovely cat, Mimao. We change her name about every three
weeks, depending on how she looks and how she behaves. Mimao is the
reverse form of Maomi, a very affectionate term in Chinese for cats.
Mimao is absolutely obsequious. She used to belong to a restaurant owner
and live with a larger, male tabby. The owner never fed her well and I
brought her milk and fish to supplement her diet. Some days when I
didn't have anything to bring, she still welcomes me by rubbing her head
against my ankle. I loved her so much that I constantly worried about
the dogs and cars in the neighborhood. One day with the consent of
restaurant owner, I took her home.
Now that she doesn't worry about food any more, she has stopped rubbing
me and turned to flatter my dad, who feeds her every day. She rubs her
head and neck against my dad's feet, and purrs very loudly to greet him.
Meanwhile she treats me as if I were as transparent as the air. But it's me
who paid for the food! And I have saved fish, shrimp, and even crab from
my portion to give her a change from cat food!
Apart from her innocent look, she is also ill-behaved and mischievous.
She loves pushing things off the edge of the table and hearing them
smash. When I sit in my chair, she will sneak onto the back of the
chair and grab my hair from behind. She is also fond of the heights,
although she doesn't always know how to land properly. Once she landed
on my laptop keyboard from the top of the ceiling fan. But that gave me
a good excuse for replacing my keyboard, although the real reason of
damage is not her landing but my spilled coffee ... Mimao is a lovely, loved cat.
