This
blue eyed beauty's official name was Pleasantview's Vlad the
Impaler... but he's more affectionately known as just Vlady, "Bob" (he
looks like a Bob) or "Cutie with the four white booties." Vlady was a
retired breeder cat (as well as Grand Champion) and we were fortunate to
adopt him approximately three years ago after the passing of our beloved
Max.
If your heart hasn't been stolen by Vlady's stunning good looks, I'm
sure his antics would have won you over. He loved to play and get into
whatever was going on. When he first came to live with us, he never
went to sleep. I couldn't believe this cat would not take naps during
the day. If I was home, he stayed by my side all day long. Eventually
of course, he settled into a routine and could be found grabbing a few
winks in the early afternoon. At night, he snuggled in between me and
my husband and liked to sleep like a human... with his head on the
pillow.
Shortly after Vlady came to live with us, we adopted a friend for him,
Sealy, a silver-shaded Persian. For the most part, the two got along,
however there are days when I think both would have preferred to have
been an only cat! With two longhaired cats, the fur literally flew in
our house!
Vlady was sort of a "momma's boy." Wherever I was, he was sure to be
there or close behind. Food was very important to him - he loved pasta...
especially lasagna and tuna. You had to watch him, because he would
steal food right off your plate if you were not careful. Vlady also
wanted to make sure no food went to waste and would clean up anything
Sealy left behind (maybe that is why he tolerated her)!
I would highly recommend the Birman for anyone who wants a long-haired
cat, but doesn't want the heavy grooming responsibilities of a Persian
or Himalayan. Birmans are also a very soft-spoken and loving breed.
Vlady passed on this spring. He will be sorely missed but he will
live on in our hearts forever.
