Zoe
is my valentine! I adopted Zoe from a foster home in Manassass,
Virginia the night before Valentines Day in 2000, and she's had my heart
ever since! Zoe's story before she was rescued is a bit of a mystery.
Evidently she had been somebody's house cat before - she was already
spayed, declawed, house-trained, knew how to wear a collar, etc. But
somehow she wound up on the street. Her foster mom was out doing
holiday shopping with her grand children one night in December 1999 when
they noticed a very thin, sweet cat following them up and down the
street. They took the cat home and contacted a local animal rescue
network the next day so she could receive veterinary care and be adopted
into a permanent home. One very special thing about this time with the
foster family is that the woman's youngest daughter (who was still
living at home) was very allergic to cats in general, but wasn't
allergic at all to Zoe! In fact, she became the only person in the
house whom Zoe would allow to pet her much or pick her up. (These days,
Zoe flops down in the paths of perfect strangers so they'll rub her
tummy! She's become much more relaxed!) My entire family adores Zoe!
I think when they come over to visit, it's to see her as much as it is
to see me! My neighbors are also fond of her, and children are often
entranced with her beautiful, soft coat and friendly manner. She hasn't
got a petty or mean-spirited bone in her body! This month, I'll have
had her for six years, and I hope keep her for many years to come!
