When
I moved to my acreage in April of 2001 the former owners left their
barn cat behind. They told me he was very aloof and I wouldn't even
notice him around. Matter of fact, they were very surprised he let me
pet him when I first walked through the barn. They never named him,
just called him "barn cat".
He was ten when we moved in and there is nothing aloof about this cat.
He stole my heart and became Barney. He follows me everywhere and is
the most loving and sweetest kitty ever. He and my Doberman became fast
friends and they "hang" together. Barney is every "good" thing a cat
can be. He's beautiful, loving, sweet, loves everyone and even shares
his bed and food with stray cats. I build little hay caves in my hay
stack and have put a warming pad inside them and it's very common to
find a stray in Barney's spot with him. If Barney were a person, he's
be a big hairy Santa type. All children who visit the acreage go first
to find Barney, he's sort of become our mascot "The big furry cat who's
always in front of you". It doesn't matter which door you open, somehow
Barney is always waiting for you there. I am very thankful for the cat
who "came with the barn," what a joy he has become!!
