Oberon
was a stray cat whom I had seen wandering my neighborhood.
Eventually, we adopted each other and he's been with me ever since. He's
a very handsome, self-assured cat, with a great presence. Most of the
time, he's laid-back and calm, until it's time to eat! Then, he's the
most vocal, demanding thing that ever was! He loves to eat and if I
didn't carefully regulate his diet, he would be a very fat cat indeed.
Even when he was a stray, he weighed fifteen pounds, all muscle and bone. His
head was bigger than his entire body. Now, he hovers at a respectable
16-17 pounds.
Oberon is the undisputed cat king of the neighborhood. My neighbors have
witnessed my cat attack and scare away a Rottweiler twice his size. The
Rottweiler is now terrified of Oberon. He was once seen chasing a
Labrador down the street. He regularly patrols his territory, keeping
invading cats away. Also a great hunter, he brought home countless
squirrels, birds, mice, even a rabbit. He is the cat's cat. He's got a
tender, affectionate side, as well. When I first got him, he would sleep
with me every night, snuggling down by my shoulder or at the bend of my
legs. He still sleeps with me on cold winter nights. He makes a great
hot water bottle! He comes home when I whistle for him; I've got him
associating my whistling with dinner. However, when he wants to come
inside, he sits beneath the kitchen window and howls until someone lets
him in. Oberon is such a part of my life, I can't imagine life without him.
