Nikki
was rescued and adopted from the Poughkeepsie, NY ASPCA shelter when
she was two years old. "Too shy," the previous owner said, but then who
wants a pushy cat? I thought. One long gaze at those gorgeous blue eyes won
me completely and home she came. She traveled to the coast of California and
lived there with me for two years in our seaside cottage. She survived a
tornado in Oklahoma, riding it out in the cab of the rental truck, on the
move back to New York. Now she is the queen of our fourth-floor abode - as
gracious and ladylike as one would expect from her delicate, refined
features ... except for her mad-minute rompings around seven P.M.
I had gone to that shelter seeking a dog, but found instead one of the
truest, sweetest friends anyone could have.
