Reef
is special because he almost died before I rescued him. One morning
my mother and cousin were driving to yoga and there was a lady stopped
in the middle of the road. She said she almost hit a kitten. My cousin
got out and tried to get him but he went down the hill into a dense
swamp. Later that day when I got home from work she told me. We got
boots and waders and went back to the swamp, hoping he was still where
she last saw him, but I had my doubts. When we got down in the swamp, we
didn't see him anywhere so we started to mew. And he mewed back to us. he
was in the mud under a fallen tree. With my cousin blocking one way, I
went around to the other. He hissed at me but didn't have strength to
run. I picked him up and we brought him to the vet.
The vet cleaned him up and brought him out. He was the tiniest,
skinniest thing I'd ever seen, he had blisters on his paws from walking
on hot pavement. He had many other problems as well. The outlook wasn't
too good. By this time I had decided to keep him - I couldn't resist. I
was determined to get him better and keep him safe. A week or two went
by and we were back at the vet. He said he looked incredible and to keep
up whatever I was doing. No one thought he would've made it another
night in that swamp, and didn't know if he was going to survive with his
health being the way it was. And I'm proud to say that a few months
later he's not only alive and well but quite the little spaz.
I bought him a kitty condo and put it next to my floor length mirror, he
loves to nap on the top and look at himself. Then theres other times
when he's feeling frisky, he runs around my room, under the bed, on top
of the speaker, on top of his kitty condo... and then he jumps... as far
as he can... to the top of the floor length mirror and slides down. This
is his favorite thing to do he does it at least five times a day. It took
him a long time to get to this point because he could barely walk for
weeks. I guess he's making up for lost time. Reef is still quite scared
of many things. He loves me and can be quite the cuddle bug, but the
only other person he's not scared of is my mother. He loves and I mean
Loves our two other cats - the feeling isn't mutual most of the time but
they're getting better. Reef doesn't venture downstairs at all- that's
dog territory and he'll have absolutely no part of that. But when its
time for my dalmatian Lou Dog to come up for bed time - that's their
favorite part of the day. Lou Dog wags his tail and Reef plays with it -
they love each other and sleep all cuddled up. They are the best of
friends. Louie is definitely Reef's dog.
