This
is Winken and Blinken, two little brothers who have moved into our
home as well as our hearts. They are now healthy and almost grown, but
this was not the case when we found them last summer. We live on a farm
which is bordered on three sides by dense hedge row trees. One day
while checking our fence line my husband heard tiny mewing sounds coming
from inside one of the slightly hollowed hedge trees. Upon investigating
further, he discovered a litter of three kittens, but no mamma around.
We came to discover their mamma cat had either been killed, or she
abandoned the kittens for some reason not to be known by us. Either way,
we knew we had to take care of the litter....they were so little, and
they were so young. They were barely weaned, but they were able to eat a
little canned cat food. Well, we took them in and set up a home for
them in our barn. We expected a lot of work taking care of them, as
they were so young. However, with lots of love and lots of food and
attention, the three boys flourished.
One was black, one gray and one red, so we named them Winken, Blinken
and Nod. Sadly, our little Nod was killed about three months ago, so we
decided then it was safer for the other two just to move into the house
with our other three cats and four dogs. We brought them in, and they
adjusted to the dogs and the other cats quickly, and they have been a
light in our lives ever since. They are silly little boy brothers, and
they do get into everything, but we love them dearly, and we thought you
might enjoy seeing their picture. We have a flag out in front of our
house, so when the kittens were lying in the open window, I just
couldn't resist taking a picture of them with the flag showing. Our
Patriotic Kittens!
