Dancer
and I met through the glass of her cage, among many cats awaiting
adoption from a rescue organization, Challenger's House, in Huntsville,
AL. Dancer looked at me, and we knew I was to adopt her. I had no plans
to adopt a cat, but she and I were meant for each other. It took a week
to convince myself that it was the right thing for Dancer, for me and
for my other cat, but in truth it was a fait accompli.
Dancer and her sister, Dasher, were rescued from an abusive situation
and readied for adoption. Someone adopted Dasher, but left Dancer
separated from her sister. I have a hope that one day Dasher will be
returned to Challenger's House and come to live with Dancer.
Dancer was immediately friendly and affectionate when she arrived home.
She has no fear of people or things, despite her previous experiences.
She loves to be petted, always wanting to be near people. Of the many
things she loves, one is to play Patty Cake with her mother. Dancer lies
on her back on her mother's lap, gazing up into her eyes, while her
mother sings the song and pats Dancer's beautiful, furry feet together.
Dancer gets along very well with her new sister,
Acony Bell.
Acony Bell graciously accepted Dancer into our home, and Dancer is a
wonderful addition to the family. They play together, eat together, run
together, and sleep together. Their relationship is a benefit to both of
them, and to me.
Dancer is, not surprisingly, very curious, active and playful. She loves
to play with water - in a shower, bathtub, sink or drinking fountain.
When I first saw her lounging in the bathroom sink, I took this picture.
