This
is my "Petrushka" a.k.a. "Shpuntik." He is seven months old and has a
cerebral palsy. Why is he so special to me? I got him, when I was
suicidal and was going to die. He saved my life and became the meaning
of my existence. I adopted "Petrushka" in California, at "Homeless Kit's
Cat Rescue Inc.", from a wonderful woman Summer. Thank you, Summer: I
will never forget it. I Love you, Petrushka, with all my Heart and Soul.
My kitten does have cerebral palsy, but in his case, this is not very
severe. I mean, he can move: he is a great jumper and runner! But he is the
worst walker: he cannot keep his balance and falls down all the time. He
also cannot stand. When he is trying to walk on the floor, he
looks like an ice-skater the first time on a skating rink. I think he
must have billion of bruises. He cannot jump on the bed: he climbs
using his claws and reaches toward me for help. He gets tired very fast,
so he sleeps a lot. When I walk upstairs, he always follows me and wants
to reach the second floor the first! So, I walk upstairs veeery slowly
to make him the winner. When he reaches the second floor, he simply
falls down and cannot move: he breathes very very hard and loudly.
He doesn't want me to help him, though. Yes, he has problems with a
litter box, but just that, sometimes, his paws don't listen to him and
make a mess with the sand: my bathroom looks like a beach ! :-) The sand
is everywhere no matter how hard and often I clean. But he never misses
the litter box, which is more important.
When Petrushka eats, very often, his face falls in a bowl, as I said
above - he cannot keep his balance. I have three more kittens besides
him: I took them after I adopted Petrushka. They often fight with each
other, but never with Petrushka. He never scratches, never bites, never
hisses... such a naive, kind, sincere kitten. He is so fragile and
unsophisticated, so I am afraid sometimes that he will be hurt by other
cats. "Petrushka" is a "sad clown" - it's a traditional story about a
straw toy with a human heart. "Petrushka" is a Russian word, but
there is the same story in other cultures: "Pierrot" in French,
"Pulchinella" in Italian. I love my Petrushka!
