Why
is Boo special? That is like asking why the wind blows! However, I
will try to enlighten you all with the small peculiarities that make Boo
stand out amongst his peers.
Boo does not hunt. He's strictly against the practice, unless it
involves insects. He has a very principled stand against what is or is
not acceptable prey. To this cat, bees and birds are friends to frolic
with and admire from afar. He is very civilized, and insists on
creating an open dialogue with his feathered friends. We always catch
him "chatting" to birds, from a distance and never stalking. If he does
consider them prey he must have the utmost respect for their negotiation
abilities!
I had a hard time choosing my little guy. He had no heartbreaking
horror story of how he came into my life. He was a happy, healthy guy
contented with life in the local SPCA shelter. When I visited, there
were many kittens. Boo did not immediately stand out to me, neither did
he select me. We simply came to a mutual agreement. He liked to be
picked up, I liked to pick him up. He liked to sit on my lap, and I
adored having a warm kitty resting there. It was just a simple case of
two fairly relaxed beings enjoying each other. We were content to
begin our journey together. My first cat, and his first permanent
human.
Now, Boo is a great cat... but he can be a terror. His favorite "bad"
things include: terrorizing our bed skirt, knocking stuff off the
bedside table, getting in the shower before/after us, pawing at our
food, sitting on our foreheads in the morning, blocking any view of
tv/computer when he feels he's owed attention.
That said, there are about a hundred great things he does to every bad.
He breaks my heart every night, just a little, when he paws his way
under the covers to snuggle up right next to my chest. He's a true
sweetie and a great little pal. I hope we have a long life together!
