Spock
either thinks he's a dog or a person. He is the first cat I ever
had who sits on command. No matter where he is, if we say "Sit!" he'll
sit. He also converses on command. Once a week I write a newspaper
column, and have to call in to make sure they received my work. Spock
runs into the computer room when he hears me dialing up the
speaker phone, and when someone answers at the other end, he starts his
meowing. He is legendary at the newspaper office! As you can see, he
loves the camera, too.
As a kitten Mr. Spock had black markings over each ear, hence his name.
As he grew older the markings disappeared, making him appear as an
all-white cat. But he answers to "Spock" so that's his forever name.
When people visit our home, our other two cats (Keeton and Tiffany) run
and hide, but Spock runs to the door to greet visitors, and jumps onto
anybody's lap and starts his purring machine. He's a "people person." He
reminds me of an Agatha Crumm cartoon where she takes her cat to a
restaurant. The waiter says, "You can't bring a cat here." Agatha
whispers, "Shhhhh. He doesn't know he's a cat. In fact, he doesn't even
know he was adopted." Such is our Mr. Spock. He surely doesn't know
he's a cat!
