Cali
is the pretty kitty and she knows it too. She demands attention on
her terms and loves to play with her older tabby step-brother. Here she
is modeling for the camera with the classic "I need attention" pose that
she learned at the age of three months. Since this picture, she has
grown into a stunning adult cat. She loves to talk to me in the morning
with small little meows and peeps and when she was younger she nibbled
on my toes. Living in the desert, there are many perils for small
kitties. When she was only four months old, Cali was exploring a cactus on
the dining room table. When her nose touched one of the thorns, her back
legs kicked into gear and she did a belly flop right onto the needles.
After 30 minutes of surgery at the animal hospital, Cali was back to her
normal self (although she does maintain a distance from this cactus).
Cali loves to explore. In our house, we have many pot shelves and
cabinets. When Cali was younger, she loved to climb to the highest
shelves and watch over the room. Now that she is a little older (and a
little heavier), Cali keeps to the tables and the couches. While the
tabby relaxes on the couch, Cali is always on the prowl for spiders and
other cats who enter our yard. If the neighbor cat walks by the window,
Cali lets everyone in the house know with her protective cries. She is
better than a watch dog. Sometimes she will sleep with me, but most of
the time, the nighttime belongs to her. During the day, while I clean
house or go to work, Cali takes advantage of the free bed and catches up
on a few Zzz's. Cali's favorite toy is the shower curtain, when it is
closed. She can spend hours hiding behind the curtail and playing with
its fringe, all while singing a happy tune. However, if the curtain is
open and the bath is exposed, she won't go near it. Cali is a fun and
loving kitty that holds a special place in my heart.
