Rupert, the Cat of the Day
Name: Rupert
Age: Nine months old
Gender: Male
Kind: Persian mix
Home: UK

This is Rupert, an adorable half persian moggy. He is an affectionate, gentle and good natured little cat who loves nothing more than curling up on your lap and purring. He has a flatmate Spider (a tabby cat) who dislikes him intensely but this does not deter little Rupert who would love nothing more than to be his friend and keeps on persisting in the friendship stakes. Perhaps one day he will get through but I doubt it as Spider is twelve years old and feels he is too old to change. We can't imagine life without Rupert.

"Hello my name is Rupert and this picture was taken when I was just a small kitten. I am now nine months old and growing into a fine cat. My mother was a persian cat and I think I have inherited some of her fine features as everyone tells me how gorgeous I am. My fur is soft and silky and gets brushed frequently. My owners love me to bits and are always kissing me and picking me up which I am not too fond of. I try and tell them when I want a kiss I will let you know but they take no notice. I have a lovely bedroom upstairs which has been allocated to me and is full of toys for me to play with. I tend to play there during the day but at night I like to cuddle up with them on their bed as they tend to move around quite a lot in their sleep and I simply love biting moving feet. Initially I was told I had to stay in my own room at night but I soon put a stop to that by making enough noise to let them know I was not happy about the situation. I do have the freedom of going out during the day through my cat flap but now that the winter months are approaching its nicer to stay in. Another reason why I am not too keen on going out is that I have a disc on my collar which says my name is Sofie. Apparently when I was born they were told that I was a little female so they promptly went out and bought a collar and had the disc engraved Sofie. On my first visit to the vet for my inoculation they realized finally that I was a little boy but didn't bother to issue me with a new identify disc so can you imagine I would be mortified if I got lost and they called me Sofie."

The other day while scouting around the neighborhood I came across a lovely cooked lamb chop which I duly brought home and deposited on their bed. I was a just a tiny bit miffed as they weren't particularly pleased and it took a great deal of maneuvering to get it through the cat flap. Still, never mind, I am keeping my eyes open for something else."

One of my favorite times of the day is in the evening when my owners have their evening meal. They like to sit in the kitchen which is warm and cosy and I have my own towel on the corner of the breakfast bar on which I sit and then I can observe them from close quarters. I have been told not to go near their food so I behave myself impeccably and usually doze during this period. Apparently I am the only cat they have every allowed to do this; so I have obviously won them over with my charm and obedience."

I have heard through eavesdropping on conversations that maybe at some stage I might get a little playmate as they are worried that while they are out at work I might be lonely. I think that would be wonderful, perhaps someone a little older than myself with more experience - who knows we'll wait and see."
