This
is Carmen Electra (Ellie). She lives in Berkshire, UK, and allows
us to live with her. We got her three years ago from the Cats Protection
League. She had been abused, never named, and abandoned just before her
fifth litter of kittens was due. She was a scared little skeleton of a
cat, and spent most of her time hiding. She would have nothing to do
with men; we could not touch her round the neck (she had obviously been
picked up that way), she would not come near anyone's feet (we suspect
she had been kicked), and hid when there were loud noises, or sudden
movements. She is still scared of children.
Everything is different now. She rules the roost. She is a typical girl
cat - sometimes stroking is demanded, sometimes its actively
discouraged! She likes digging in my garden, particularly when I have
just planted some very expensive new plant. She is very talkative and
affectionate, and a lovely companion. There are those who say she's a
little fat, but we prefer to think that she has 'heavy fur!'
Ellie likes to sit behind the curtains and jump through onto my
partner's head when he's relaxing on the sofa - entertaining on two
counts. She walks on my keyboard whilst I'm trying to work. Ellie is
rather clumsy, and we often hear a squishy thud as she misses her jump
onto a surface and flops onto the floor. She has a mad half hour
occasionally, and will rush around the house, in and out of her cat
flap, running in and out of rooms, losing her grip on the tiles and
cannoning into walls/doors. Most importantly, she is a very happy
healthy cat now, and we can't imagine what life was like without her.
